Lionesses primed for the world champions! England handed double boost ahead of Spain Nations League showdown as Alessia Russo & Ella Toone return

Both players missed the 6-0 thrashing at Wembley Stadium last week due to minor knocks, but Sarina Wiegman confirmed the double injury boost on Monday. That is particularly good news given England's next match sees them take on the world champions, with the Lionesses needing to win to qualify for the Nations League finals.

That was not the only good news England fans received in Wiegman's pre-match press conference, either, as the Lionesses' boss confirmed that every member of her squad is fit to start if needed, including Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp. All three played for their country on Friday after returning from long injury lay-offs and Wiegman confirmed that there are no issues with them being in Tuesday's starting XI, though she did admit some players need their minutes managed at this point.

"I'm happy because we're all training and everyone came through fit, so we have everyone available," Wiegman said on Monday. "We have some decisions to make and that's very nice. There's absolutely a couple of players that we are aware of that we have to take care of them too, not taking too much risk."

The availability of both Toone and Stanway is a particular boost, as England will be without Grace Clinton for this match after she picked up a yellow card suspension in Friday's win. "Of course, there's a disappointment," Wiegman said of the Manchester United star's absence. "It was an unlucky moment. It's also part of the game. She plays with a lot of intensity and is very aggressive, so, yes, she got a yellow card and she can't play tomorrow. That's a fact. So we're moving on with the team we have and will get other players on the pitch."

One other notable absentee on Tuesday will be Lauren James, who wasn't included in England's squad for this camp due to a hamstring injury which she picked up on Lionesses duty in early April. Wiegman, though, is positive about her progress as the Chelsea winger looks to return in time to be part of her squad for this summer's European Championship.

"We are trying to get her fit," she explained. "Of course, first of all, she's trying to get fit with all the support from Chelsea and with all the support from us. She's doing really well and we're moving forward. She will need to tick some boxes and when she does and we can progress, then that's very good, because we think she can make a difference at the Euros, but she needs to be healthy, she needs to recover from loads and of course, she needs to perform at her highest level. I'm pretty positive that's going to work."

England will take on Spain in Barcelona on Tuesday evening, knowing a win will seal their place in the Nations League finals, to be played later this year. Their hosts, however, only need to avoid defeat to reach the last four of a competition which they won last February.
