How Man City-linked Cavan Sullivan and Philadelphia Union U17s fared in the Generation Adidas Cup group stage

The Generation Adidas Cup - a tournament at U15 and U17 levels - pits together MLS academy sides against clubs from around the world. 40 different teams at both age levels compete in a winner-takes-all event which is attended by scouts from some of the biggest sides on the planet. In the group stage, Sullivan and the U17 Union side took on Mexican club Atlas FC and MLS academies FC Cincinnati and Vancouver Whitecaps.

In game one against Atlas, Sullivan and the Union claimed victory 2-1, starting out their tournament run on a high note. In game two, though, they had a hiccup against FCC. The Union were stunned 2-0 and their hopes of back-to-back championships at the U17 level were suddenly up in the air.

Against the Whitecaps, though, they stormed to victory with a statement performance, winning 4-1. Although Sullivan didn't find the back of the net in the triumphant victory, he played a key role in attack.

With the matchday three result, the U17s advanced to the knockout stages of the championship bracket of the tournament, where they will face single-elimination en route to the final of the GA Cup.

Sullivan is actively linked to Premier League giants Manchester City, with scouts dubbing him the 'best 14-year-old in the world.' On his professional debut in the buildup to GA Cup, he even notched an assist for the Union's MLS NEXT Pro side.

Sullivan and the U17 Union side will take on South Korea's Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Wednesday evening at 5pm ET. With a win, they will advance to the semifinals of the tournament. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
