Barcelona open talks with Chelsea in shock move for Carney Chukwuemeka as Hansi Flick continues hunt for new midfielder

Per Sport, Barcelona are eyeing a move for 20-year-old English midfielder Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in the ongoing summer window. The Catalan giants confirmed the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Dani Olmo on Friday, but manager Hansi Flick could still look to add one more central midfielder to his squad, especially with the likes of Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong suffering injuries in recent months.

Earlier in the summer, AC Milan had approached the Blues with a loan bid for Chukwuemeka, however, the Premier League side rejected the offer as they were not interested in sending the player out on a temporary deal. It is unlikely that the young midfielder would get enough opportunities to play under Enzo Maresca this season considering the club's massive squad. This might work in the Blaugrana's favour as the player could pick a transfer to La Liga for more game time.

The former Aston Villa youth player moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022 and appeared in only 12 matches across all competitions in the 2023/24 campaign where he scored twice and provided an assist.

Flick's side will kick off the upcoming 2024/25 season against Valencia on August 17 away from home in a league clash.
