  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Emoke Papai's 73rd-minute strike secured Hungary a 1-0 win over the Swiss at Hidegkuti Nandor Stadium on Tuesday in their latest Euro 2025 qualifier. Aston Villa's Lehmann started the game but was hooked at half-time as their bid to win Group B1 of League B in their qualifying campaign suffered a blow. Despite that, Switzerland have vowed to rebound from this defeat.

  • WHAT SWITZERLAND SAID

On Wednesday, the Swiss team posted a series of photos on Instagram, including one of Lehmann, and wrote: "We well come back stronger - together!"

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

This is not a terminal loss for the Swiss as they are hosting Euro 2025, so they have no fears about not qualifying for the tournament. However, the fact that they lost to a team ranked 21 places below them in FIFA's ranking (20th vs 41st) is, arguably, cause for concern.

    WHAT NEXT?

Switzerland, who are top of their group as they try to get promoted to League A, round off their qualifying campaign away to second-placed Turkey on July 12 and at home to bottom of the table Azerbaijan four days later.
