The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his current deal, which expires on June 30, but his desire to stay is so strong that he turned down approaches from several clubs during the summer.

Getty Images SportDane’s decision comes as Barca rebuild their defence
The former Chelsea defender endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign with injuries but is now fully fit and eager to fight for his place under Flick. With Inigo departing for Al-Nassr, Christensen believes there is a genuine opportunity to regain a starting role alongside teenage prodigy Pau Cubarsi. Christensen’s stance is crucial for Barca at a time when the club are managing financial restrictions and squad reshuffles.
Getty ImagesChristensen could feature against Newcastle
Flick did not use him in the 6-0 win against Valencia, opting for Cubarsi and Eric García, but Christensen is in contention to start against Newcastle in the Champions League. If he performs, the pressure will be on the club to secure his long-term future before other clubs return with fresh offers.
