    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 25-year-old forward has been enduring a difficult time at club level of late. Villa have picked up just one win from their last five games in all competitions, with a Conti Cup semi-final defeat to Arsenal forming part of that run.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

They were held to a 2-2 draw by Leicester last time out, with England international Rachel Daly salvaging a point in that contest. Lehmann once again failed to see out 90 minutes against the Foxes, as she was replaced in the 65th minute after already picking up a booking.

  • WHAT LEHMANN SAID

Domestic duty is now being put to the back of Lehmann’s mind, with attention once again shifting to international matters. Lehmann is one appearance short of reaching a half-century for her country and has posted a “we back” message on social media after rejoining the Swiss ranks.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Switzerland are guaranteed to be involved in the next European Championship, as they prepare to fill the role of hosts, but will form part of Group B1 in the qualification process. They are readying themselves for meetings with Turkey and Azerbaijan at the start of that campaign.
