  • Earps named The Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper
  • Beats Spain's Coll and Australia's Arnold to award
  • Adds to vast array of individual trophies
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Earps scooped the award at a star-studded ceremony at London's Apollo Theatre beating fellow nominees Spain's Cata Coll and Australia's Mackenzie Arnold. The prize was awarded based on performances last season including the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The Manchester United keeper is well-versed in awards ceremonies by now but had shared some heartfelt words in her acceptance speech.

    WHAT MARY EARPS SAID

Receiving the award Earps referenced the challenges she has overcome to win back her place as the Lionesses number one: “I am just blown away. I talk a lot obviously about how it hasn’t been an easy journey. Some would say I took the scenic route, but it made me feel so much prepared for the challenges ahead. If you’re struggling and going through hell, keep going. It’s never too late to be exactly who you are.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

From losing her place in the England side, Earps has bounced back to help the Lionesses to a famous Euro 2022 win and then to the final of the 2023 World Cup final where she famously saved a penalty from Jenni Hermoso before falling to a narrow defeat.

Since then it's almost been impossible to keep a tally of the individual awards that have come her way. December saw Earps add the coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year award in its 70th year adding to an incredible list of awards from within football and the wider sporting world.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MARY EARPS?

Somehow, Earps managed to squeeze in some winter break relaxation in between attending glitzy awards ceremonies. She's now back in action for United and has a huge WSL clash against Chelsea to look forward to this weekend as speculation about her club future mounts.
