Robert Matano: My immediate task is to bring stability at Tusker

Robert Matano has assured Tusker fans that he will stop the rot at the former champions this season.

The former AFC Leopards coach is set to replace sacked Ugandan Sam Timbe in a ceremony on Tuesday. And speaking to Goal, Matano is optimistic that the brewers will recover their winning form sooner than later.

“My mind is not the position the team is lying at the moment…but what we can do to help the team before the end of first leg. Position in the table does not matter now but will come later.

“We must first build cohesion and stability in the team then after that we can start talking about the position and if they are ready to challenge for the title by then.”

Matano admitted that he was jumping into a very tricky job following the team’s poor start to the season but remained optimistic that things will improve for the better.

“Tusker are in a very bad shape because they are struggling to get the result that they are supposed to. They are also dropping points against teams that they are supposed to beat.

"Those are some of the areas that I am going to address immediately I take charge. I don’t want to set myself a target for now but I can only hope for the better before the end of first leg.”

The brewers sacked coach Timbe on Monday, a day after the team lost 3-0 to Zoo Kericho.
