Fulham battle Huddersfield Town for Benin international Steve Mounie

Newly promoted English Premier League side Huddersfield Town and Championship side Fulham are battling each other for the signature of  Montpellier attacker Steve Mounie.

The Benin international has become a hot property in the transfer window and is being sought by a number of clubs after an impressive season in the French top tier where he netted 14 times in 35 appearances to help keep Montpellier from relegation after the club's poor early season form.

GetWestLondon has reported that Fulham have submitted a bid, although lower than the €13 million that La Paillade are requesting for the Parakou-born forward.

But a contradicting report from French publication L’Equipe suggests that Huddersfield have emerged as the front-runners after agreeing personal terms with the player.

Mounie has a contract that runs until 2019 at Montpellier but looks set to leave the Ligue 1 side who finished 15th in the last campaign.
