Bernard Mwalala: Bandari deserved to beat Gor Mahia in the KPL opener

Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala has dismissed claims that his side beat Gor Mahia in the season opener because of time wasting.

The Dockers cruised to a 2-1 league win against the defending champions in a match played at Mbaraki Stadium on Saturday. However, Gor Mahia captain Harun Shakava later claimed in an interview that Bandari managed to beat them because they used time wasting tactics.

Coach Mwalala now says that his team deserved to win because they were the best team on the pitch. “Let me say it again and again that my boys deserved to beat Gor Mahia. My players did a wonderful job, played according to instructions and were the best team during the match. As a coach, I always aim at winning my matches free and square and that is what happened against Gor Mahia.”

Mwalala revealed that he will know the indication whether his side is in the title race after the first five matches of the season. “I believe we have the best team this season. The team is intact because we did not release any player and we are ready for the trophy but the first five matches will give me an indication on how they will perform this campaign.”

Bandari will next face Sofapaka, who beat Mount Kenya United 2-1, in a league match on Sunday.
