According to Bild, the supervisory board has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday at which Krösche's future will be the central item on the agenda, with discussions reportedly already turning to potential successors despite his contract running until 2028. The relationship between Krösche and head coach Adi Hütter has deteriorated rapidly in their short time working together, and trust from fellow board members and the supervisory board has eroded further following controversy over his property dealings in Croatia and his flirtation with a lucrative offer from AC Milan in June.

The transfer window added fuel to the fire. Krösche faced criticism internally for moving too slowly despite available budget and clear squad gaps. The most pressing of those gaps, the goalkeeper position, was finally addressed when Frankfurt confirmed the loan signing of Noah Atubolu from SC Freiburg, with a purchase obligation understood to be worth around 12.5 to 13 million euros. Hütter had publicly demoted Kaua Santos after a 0-7 pre-season loss to Brentford, stating bluntly that the Brazilian had made the club doubt him. Atubolu, who extended his Freiburg contract to enable the loan structure, now steps in as the undisputed number one.

With Augsburg visiting Deutsche Bank Park on September 6, Frankfurt need results to stabilise on the pitch. Whether the club's leadership structure survives the week intact is the more pressing question off it.
