Qin Sheng deliberately stepped on the Belgium international's foot during a game against Tianjin Quanjian and has now been suspended for half a year

Shanghai Shenhua midfielder Qin Sheng has been suspended for six months and fined nearly £14,000 after deliberately stamping on Axel Witsel.

'Suarez wanted to join Arsenal!'

Sheng and the Belgium international, formerly of Zenit Saint Petersburg, were involved in a tussle in the penalty area before the Shanghai midfielder made a seemingly premeditated move to tread on Witsel’s foot.

Shanghai wasted little time in reprimanding their player, fining him £35,000 and forcing him to train with the reserves, whilst also claiming that they will reject any potential transfer request should he decide to seek a new club.

And the Chinese Football Association have now confirmed that they have seen fit to ban Sheng for six months, while also dishing out a fine, after his moment of madness.

Meanwhile, Sheng’s team-mate Sun Shilin has also been banned, for a mere two games, after mocking Witsel's Tianjin Quanjian team-mate Alexandre Pato for missing a penalty.

Shilin gave Pato a thumbs-up after the miss, with the CFA claiming that the incident could have “grave repercussions for society”.
