The 30-year-old will have surgery next week to address discomfort in his left knee that has limited him to eight appearances (three starts) this season.

Grella was a regular starter as the Red Bulls won the Supporters' Shield in 2015 and finished first in the Eastern Conference last season. He has compiled 16 goals and 13 assists over 73 regular season appearances for New York since joining the club in 2015.

In Grella's absence, second-year midfielder Alex Muyl has emerged as a starter on the flank.
