Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand has criticised the scenario he and his players found themselves in following the medical emergency which affected Christian Eriksen. "I think it was the wrong decision to make between the two scenarios," Hjulmand told reporters on Sunday.&nbsp;"It was very tough for the players. They didn't even know if they could probably lose their best friend. "I have the feeling that we shouldn't have played and wrong that the players had to decide. I'm really proud of the way the world reacted to this incident. It's often about money, but yesterday we saw what football is all about - compassion and love." Hjulmand explained that Eriksen had no memory of what happened and was actually worried about his team-mates:&nbsp;"He was concerned about us and the family. He didn't remember much and was more concerned&nbsp;about how the team felt. "That shows his big personality. He is a hell of a player but also as a person. He feels like he could go out and play and he feels best when his feet are close to the ball. It was good to see him smile." Denmark's sporting director Peter Moller echoed Hjulmand's sentiments: "Football is not the most important thing in the world. I agree with Kasper."

Well, Day 3 of Euro 2020 did not disappoint - and after the difficult scenes in Copenhagen just over twenty-four hours ago, it has been something of a blessing that it has delivered. England, Austria and the Netherlands are up and running, while Croatia, North Macedonia and Ukraine must wait for their first points, in a day that saw 10 goals across three games. And the best bit? We get to do it all over again tomorrow - when Scotland host the Czech Republic in Group D, and Group E gets underway as Poland play Slovakia in Saint Petersburg and Spain welcome Sweden to Seville. Georginio Wijnaldum helped the Netherlands to victory in their first tournament game for seven years tonight, but he was quite understandably left off-balance by Ukraine's sudden response late on. "I am relieved," he says.&nbsp;"Overall, we played a good game, but we gave them two chances in 10 minutes which were two goals. "We need to learn that if we play such a match we need to finish it off well. We let them get back into the game and that needs to improve."

Wijnaldum: Netherlands need to learn

Ukraine captain&nbsp;Andriy Yarmolenko has stayed surprisingly quiet on that goal in his post-match comments, but has reflected that Ukraine remain in the fight even after defeat. "It was a difficult game. We realised that we were playing against a serious rival," he says. The coaching team are happy with how much we gave. "It is always upsetting to lose a game, but we have two more games to go and we will still play with the same energy. If we do it [qualify] then it will be great."

Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko has offered praise for his team's resolve to drag themselves back off the canvas, even if they could not dodge a final knockout blow in Amsterdam. "It was a very quick and interesting game with loads of opportunities for both teams," he says. "I would like to thank my team for the reaction they showed, especially after going 2-0 down – we could have lost the game at that point. "We found energy to change and attack. We switched the formation and balanced it. The team gave a very good account of themselves."

Andriy Yarmolenko scored his 41st goal for Ukraine in his 95th cap with that absolute world-beater of an effort - the best of the bunch by some distance - tonight. Only coach Andriy Shevchenko has scored more goals for the national side, with 48. That number could well be under threat, though the West Ham man would surely need a few more years at international level to get near.

The Flying Dutchman

Nigel de Jong - earlier found tweeting his appreciation of England's Kalvin Phillips - has been on ITV, chatting about that roller-coaster game, and has quite clearly not hidden his bias, while acknowledging that for Frank de Boer's side's flaws, they made it stick when they needed to. "Absolutely delighted to see the Netherlands win," he says.&nbsp;"It was an emotional rollercoaster. I've got no voice! "Denzel Dumfries missed a sitter and especially in the first half, he could've scored a hat-trick with the amount of chances he had. But he made it count at the end of the game. "It was a nervous couple of minutes for Frank de Boer - I could already see the headlines. But the three points were the most important thing."

De Jong delighted to see Dutch make it stick

A fun fact unearthed from the first half: there were nine shots in the opening 10 minutes of this match. That's more than any other game at the European Championship, since 1980 when records first began. In hindsight, that bonkers burst of goals across the second half isn't too surprising.

More Shots! Shots! Shots!

Forrmer Netherlands international Mario Melchiot has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on that game, and has hailed his nation's talent, while acknowledging that their own self-confidence can be their undoing, as it almost was tonight. "Sometimes, with the arrogance, you have to be careful with underestimating people," he says.&nbsp;"We saw how Ukraine got back into the game. "The talent the team possesses is incredible. That's what Holland is built on. We always produce quality players. But you have to remember in tournaments you need passion and a little bit of luck to achieve things."

Goal difference - which will give way to head-to-head records in the event of a tie at the end of the group stages - means that with the first two games in the bag, the Netherlands sit second in Group C. Austria's superior margin of victory over North Macedonia means they sit atop the summit, with Ukraine third. That table may look very different in just over a week and a half.

Dumfries follows in De Boer's footsteps

We said this could be the pick of the day but let's not lie, even our wildest dreams, we did not see that one coming. Five goals in one half of football. A match won, and lost, and won again. The roar of a crowd - an actual living crowd, inside a stadium! It's hard to say that Ukraine deserved to lose that one after battling back, while the Netherlands both earned a victory and practically threw it away in the manner they often seem to do these days. Football is the winner in the end, surely. If Euro 2020 can deliver at least half-a-dozen more games like that, this is going to be a fantastic tournament.

It's all over! The Netherlands end their seven-year hiatus from tournament football on the winning side, but boy, did they make themselves work for it in a second-half, five-goal thriller in Amsterdam. Ukraine look wrecked, a remarkable testament to how close they came to snatching a point that would have almost certainly felt like a win. They remain firmly in this contest of course - two games with Austria and North Macedonia await, both very much matches they have the talent to win - but they will rue the missed chance they gave themselves here.

There is a scene in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery where Mike Myers' title character tells a casino dealer that he also likes to live dangerously. That is what it is like to follow the Netherlands in men's international football right now, it seems. They've won this game twice over, and lost it once too - and the sign of five added minutes flagged up by the fourth official indicates they have time to let it slip all over again. The nerves must be very shredded right now.

Living on the edge

Salvation!&nbsp;Denzel Dumfries has saved Frank de Boer's bacon! The PSV Eindhoven man should have found the back of the net in the first half, but he has made amends for that mistake with the header that may well hand the Netherlands victory in their incredible Euro 2020 opener. Ukraine will be distraught, particularly as the header at the right post - set up by a lovely ball from Nathan Ake - is the sort that goalkeepers parry all day long.&nbsp;Georgi Bushchan just doesn't palm it right and it slips through to beat him. It's Dumfries' first goal for his country. What a time to score it.

WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING IN AMSTERDAM?! Visions of their Scotland nightmare are rising up from the recent past to haunt Frank de Boer and the Netherlands right now. Inside four minutes, what had looked to be an&nbsp;unassailable lead for the hosts at&nbsp;Johan Cruyff Arena has crumbled away. A free-kick falls for&nbsp;Ruslan Malinovskiy to deliver out on the left flank from some 30-plus yards out and he drops a beauty of a delivery into the box.&nbsp;Roman Yaremchuk is there in the box and - amid the crowd of defenders - rises above to nudge a deft finish in at the far post.

HOLY COW, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE CRACKER THAT IS FROM ANDRIY YARMOLENKO! That's the goal of Euro 2020 so far - and if we get any in the same ballpark, it is going to be one wonderful tournament. The captain plays a lovely one-two across the right edge of the Netherlands' penalty area, looks up from 20 or so yards out, and curls an absolute blinder into the far-top corner past a full-stretch&nbsp;Maarten Stekelenburg. Suddenly, the heavens have opened above Ukraine. Is there the chance of a remarkable result in Amsterdam?

Ukraine really have struggled to find their feet this second half - but Roman Yaremchuk does at least ensure they'll have a shot to their name before the final whistle blows. It's not a bad effort, low and dipping, but&nbsp;Maarten&nbsp;Stekelenburg has saved more of those than I've had kippers for breakfast. It's as routine as the Jubilee Line, at least when there are no&nbsp;maintenance works on the Jubilee Line.

Amsterdam runs orange

We haven't really seen a side come back to steal a victory at Euro 2020 so far. Wales rescued a gutsy point to spoil Switzerland's start, but otherwise, we've seen a mixture of blowout wins - Italy, Belgium, Austria in the end - or tight, cagey encounters - England and Finland. This could lean well towards the former, unless Ukraine can find a lifeline in the final half-hour in Amsterdam.

The Comeback Kids?

Double Dutch delight for the Netherlands! Wout Weghorst is the man who rifles home, a deflected shot burying itself in the top of the goal on the right edge, but a lengthy VAR check follows to study whether Denzel Dumfries committed a foul in the build-up - and whether there was an offside too. It's given, after a moment. Ukraine might feel quite hard done by, and there's certainly an argument for their case. It's a long way back for them with this goal.

The Dutch are not resting on their laurels with that opener. Frank de Boer may have punched the air hard enough to break a rift in the space-time&nbsp;continuum but he's barking at his players to keep pushing for that second now. Wout Weghorst has a couple of tame attempts now, one easily saved and another effectively dragged out of play. That might not have even been a shot, actually, more just a wayward touch. Ukraine are reeling from their concession.

Netherlands in for the kill?

The hosts have their lead - and it is a captain's knock from&nbsp;Georginio Wijnaldum! He's scored some big goals in his career, and the newly-minted Paris Saint-Germain man has added another one to that tally now. It's a poacher's finish on a spilled ball, rifled home after&nbsp;Georgi Bushchan failed to cleanly take a cross from&nbsp;Denzel Dumfries. It's a quality finish, but you have to feel for the goalkeeper there, who should have been better covered by his defence.

The game is afoot once more in Amsterdam, and there's been no changes at the break. Statistically, this one should be favouring the Netherlands across the second half, but at 0-0, it is there for either side to take. Finland, albeit in vastly different circumstances, showed that a scoreless encounter is always up for grabs yesterday.

There were 14 shots in that first half, a number which takes this game joint-top of Euro 2020 rankings for efforts before the interval so far. (Italy managed 14 alone too against Turkey, but this is a combined 10 for the Netherlands and four for Ukraine.) Just when will the goals come?

Mind you, if we are talking about evergreen figures,&nbsp;Andiry Yarmolenko has to be worth a mention, surely? He is playing his 95th game for Ukraine, the most of any current Ukrainian outfielder yet to retire. Should Ukraine make the semi-finals, he could bring up his century at this tournament. What a story - both him and his country - that would be if it happened.

How have the Netherlands not got themselves in front there?! Bushchan denies Wijnaldum with a close-range parry, an almost miracle touch that seemed destined to power past him, and then Dumfries spears a header wide at the right post by a sliver of a gap. You'd struggle to get a carrot between the woodwork and the ball there, it look like it was merely an inch. Ukraine have ridden their luck there.

Double chance for Dutch

Here's a fun stat for you to chew on: the last time Netherlands played a European Championship game at Johan Cruijff Arena, against Italy in 2000, the Dutch had Frank Rijkaard as their manager, who was younger than Maarten Stekelenburg is today. He really is redefining what middle-age is, isn't he?

Blockbuster!

Maarten Stekelenburg hasn't had to make too many saves so far but he does now as&nbsp;Yarmolenko pulls the trigger on an effort that requires some concentration to deal with. There may be no goals so far, but this is arguably the best opening half-hour we've had in any of our three games today. The crowd remain in fine voice too. The burst of home support remains a joy to hear.

Ukraine break and head straight down the other end, with&nbsp;Roman Yaremchuk feeding a delightful backheel into the box - but&nbsp;Andriy Yarmolenko is bundled over and can't get to it cleanly in time to shoot. Referee Felix Brych - who is also a doctor, as a side note - sees no problem there though. No penalty for the visitors.

That lively opening quarter-hour has given way to something a little more measured, an approach that Ukraine seem keen to force upon the Netherlands. So far, the blistering pace of Frank de Boer's side have caught their visitors out, but now they are slowly shifting to meet the tides set up against them.

The change is made and Zubkov has been replaced by Shakhtar Donetsk man Marlos. One of the few non-European-born players at Euro 2020 - he hails from&nbsp;Sao Jose&nbsp;dos Pinhais - he took citizenship in 2017, and played a part in their qualifying campaign for Russia 2018. This, at 33, is his first major tournament.

Oh, that is a tasty flick off the outside of the boot from&nbsp;Georginio Wijnaldum and&nbsp;Denzel Dumfries almost has the opener at the right post. Bushchan makes the stop again and Ukraine see off the subsequent corner, but this has been a lightning assault upon Ukraine's back-lines. A cagey encounter so far, this one is not. Wijnaldum blazes an effort over the crossbar a moment later, just leaning off it as he launches the shot. The hosts are in the mood to have a bit of a party, it seems.

Memphis Depay is off like a rocket there! Ukraine have some early ball, and show a little promise around the Netherlands box, but then the ball breaks for the Lyon man and he absolutely tears off downfield, turning defenders inside out all around him. His final shot is a little lacking in power and accuracy, allowing&nbsp;Georgi Bushchan an easy stop, but talk about pace. Sonic the Hedgehog would rightly applaud that one.

We're underway at&nbsp;Johan Cruyff Arena in this Group C encounter between the Netherlands and Ukraine! This might not be the most eagerly anticipated match of the day - but they very well may have saved the best for last.

While pre-tournament discussions around teams are generally geared around how far they can go, it's been a more satorial subject of conversation when it comes to Ukraine. Their kit - approved by UEFA - sparked fury across Russia as it happened to feature an outline of the nation that included the territory of Crimea, a region still recognised as Ukraine by the UN but annexed by their neighbours in 2014. If England's game with Croatia was the 2018 rematch we were all waiting for, and Austria's clash with North Macedonia was a hipster-purist international tournament dream, then our final game today feels a little more straightforward on paper. Austria captain David Alaba, who was superb this evening,&nbsp;has been speaking to the media about their 3-1 win. "We're very happy because we wanted to win this first game, we wanted to start well in this tournament," he said. "In 2016 we didn't start well. We have a really good squad with a lot of potential. You could see it today with two guys who came off the bench and scored so that was very important for us."

Former England defender Ashley Cole singled out David Alaba's switch to a more offensive position as a key factor in Austria's victory. He told&nbsp;ITV: "Austria have important players like David Alaba and they were able to push them forward into areas where they could be more effective. "When the ball is on Alaba's left foot, North Macedonia's defensive line has to get over to block space and danger. Austria changed their angle of attack."

England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who starred for the Three Lions at Wembley,&nbsp;told&nbsp;BBC Sport: "It was really warm and it took its toll on us. It's a great result and I'm happy with my performance. There are two group games left and we need to perform like that - if not better. "As soon as we finished celebrating [with Raheem Sterling] it's the first time I have found him with a pass since I've linked up with England. "It's a great feeling to get an assist and a great feeling for the three points. I'm laid back - that's the kind of person I am regardless of what is thrown at me. I just try and take it in my stride. If I didn't have the team around me and the coaching staff around me to make me feel like that then I don't think it would be possible. "There's a lot of talk about me and Declan Rice fighting for one position but when we play together, I think we play really well. It's an honour to play with him."

Croatia win a "great feeling" - Phillips

Some more reaction from England's opening game win against Croatia now, starting with Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate. He told BBC Sport:&nbsp;"I thought they [the back four] coped very well. With Croatia, I think you have to put pressure on their midfield players especially and we managed to do that. "That limits some of the supply, but the defenders dealt with the longer balls well, they read the game well, they were composed in their build-up. "It was a day where I thought everyone that got onto the pitch performed well and that was set up by the whole group over the last two weeks. "This is a tough group. There are different sorts of challenges and Scotland and the Czechs are good sides. We're pleased with today, you want to get a good start because it takes some of the tension out of the preparations for the next game, but we need to get points to qualify, which is our first objective."

An attempted clearance cannons off&nbsp;Marcel Sabitzer towards his own goal,&nbsp;Daniel Bachmann comes steaming off his line to try and collect but the ball somehow squirms out of his grasp and into the path of Pandev, who has the simple task of stroking the ball into an empty net!
