Latest Premier League Odds: Puel sack race favourite once more after FA Cup shock

Jose Mourinho's departure from Manchester United reset the Premier League managerial sack race market.

Three top-flight bosses have left their posts this season but there are two more candidates under pressure according to the latest odds.

Leicester City took nine points from 12 in the Premier League over the festive period, including high profile wins over Chelsea and Manchester City. Despite that, Claude Puel is the 7/4 (2.75) market principle with William Hill to be the next top-flight manager to depart.

The Foxes sit seventh in the table but that lofty ranking - and the gulf between the top six places - has seen some fans voice their disappointment with a failure to take the other domestic competitions more seriously.

Puel's team have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the last month and the weakened sides deployed in those clashes have seemingly undone some of the credit he'd built up.

Losing to Manchester City on penalties is understandable but the 57-year-old chose to heavily rotate his line-up for the quarter final at the King Power Stadium, as he did in the 2-1 defeat to Newport County on Sunday.

A defensive style of football sees the former Premier League champions boast the best backline outside the top four but their tally of 25 goals scored has done little to improve how Puel is perceived by those in the stands.

Southampton parted company with the Frenchman after he took them to eighth place in the Premier League and a cup final defeat so such a move would be far from unprecedented. However, that decision was taken at the end of the 2016-17 season where the Saints had lost 16 league matches.

The market reflects the ire of some sections of the fanbase, but Leicester City have been through a traumatic few months. With that in mind it seems somewhat unlikely that the King Power hierarchy would make the decision to relieve the manager of his duties in the middle of a campaign given the general run of results although media reports regularly suggest that Puel is on thin ice in the East Midlands.

David Wagner is available at 5/2 (3.50) with Huddersfield embroiled in another battle to avoid relegation. The Terriers are rooted to the foot of the table, eight points from safety and have lost their last nine games in all competitions.

The weekend meeting with Cardiff City will further impact Wagner's price but it may be the case that his contribution to the club in his three years in charge has seen him build up enough credit to remain in place despite their poor form.

Outside of the two frontrunners it's 10/1 (11.0) about Neil Warnock or Rafael Benitez being the next top-flight manager to go and 12/1 (13.0) on Everton boss Marco Silva.

William Hill go 20/1 (21.0) that there are no more managerial casualties this term. That could be a price worth considering for a small interest given doubts over the market leaders and the relative safety of most managers with over half the Premier League season done and dusted.
