Celtic vs Rosenborg: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview

The Scottish champions come up against familiar foes in the form of the Norwegians as they get their group stage campaign under way

Celtic lock horns with Rosenborg for the third time this season as they get their Europa League campaign under way.

Brendan Rodgers' side missed out on a place in the group stage of the Champions League so they will be eager to redeem themselves by mounting a strong push for glory in UEFA's second-tier club tournament.

For the visitors, the game offers an ideal opportunity to exact revenge, but they will be keen not to let such thoughts get in the way of their strategy.

As well as Rosenborg, the Scottish champions will come up against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg in Group B.

Match Preview

Brendan Rodgers Celtic

The wonderful mechanics of chance have conspired to pair Celtic and Rosenborg for the third time in European competition in the space of two seasons.

Celtic have come out on top on both occasions, narrowly winning 1-0 on aggregate last season before improving to triumph 3-1 earlier this season in the Champions League qualification phase. The Bhoys subsequently failed overcome AEK Athens in the following round and thus missed out on a place in the Champions League group stage.

Having already beaten the Norwegians over four ties in recent memory, the Scottish champions undoubtedly boast a psychological edge, but they cannot afford to take anything for granted on Thursday.

"The dynamics are slightly different in terms of playing Rosenborg," Rodgers said.

"Previously, it has been knockout and maybe the first legs have been a little bit cagey, but the difficulty of the game is still there.

"Their system's very clear, it's very defined. They've got good balance in their team, clear identity, very structured, but also they've got very good individual players."

A win at home will set Celtic nicely on their way towards progression from Group B, with arguably tougher matches against RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg to come in October.
