Betting Special: Record transfer fee 11/4 to be broken with Neymar odds-on for Barcelona return

A busy summer could be in store for many clubs as the transfer window gets into full swing.

Real Madrid have set the tone already with the big-money signings of Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy and Luka Jovic in June, whilst Manchester United got in on the action by landing Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50 million.

The deals are unlikely to stop there. Neymar, Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen are amongst the names that could be set for a move this summer and 888Sport offer 11/4 (3.75) that the transfer record will be broken in the current window.

Currently the record is Neymar’s €222m (£200m) move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and the Brazilian looks the most likely to break that fee following reports that he wants to return to the La Liga champions.

Barca vice-president Jordi Cardoner told reporters: “The correct thing is to say that Neymar wants to return to Barcelona, but I do not agree that Barcelona worry about signing Neymar, this is not on the table.”

Should a move materialise it is likely that PSG will want at least the transfer fee they paid for the forward two years ago, which could see the record broken.

888Sport, though, offer 3/5 (1.60) that Neymar signs with Barcelona this summer and 6/5 (2.20) that he stays in the French capital for a third season.

It is 11/50 (1.22) that the record is not broken this summer, which is little surprise considering the lack of available players who could justifiably move for that amount.

Perhaps the only other player who could command such a transfer fee is Neymar’s teammate Kylian Mbappe, who has reportedly refused to sign a new contract at PSG ahead of his current one expiring in 2022.

However the price on the Frenchman staying with the Ligue 1 champions this summer is just 1/10 (1.10), highlighting how unlikely it is that PSG will be without the 20-year-old next term.
