'Took us a while to get going' - Wrexham midfielder Tom O'Connor makes League Two promotion admission and demands Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side maintain 'standards'

O'Connor has admitted that he and his Wrexham team-mates found it tough to adapt to League Two after promotion from the National League. However, now that they are on track for a second successive promotion, he has urged his teammates to keep up their intensity and finish the job.

O'Connor said, via the Leader: "It took us a while to get going in League Two. But the last few months, we have got a foothold and got used to the league so hopefully we can go up another gear and push on. It's a tough league and there are a lot of decent sides around the top of it. It is never going to be easy, especially after coming up last season, but we have got a good squad with good quality in it so we do expect to be up there.

"We are in a good position. We are up there but there's a lot of football to be played still. There will be lots of teams pushing to break into that top-three so we will be looking to keep our standards high and try and stay up there come the end of the season."

Wrexham are flying in League Two in their first season in the Football League after 15 years away. The Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned side are second in the table, two points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand. There is currently a three-point buffer between Wrexham and the play-off places, although fourth-place Barrow have played one game more.

O'Connor will hope his team-mates respond to his message when Wrexham travel to Newport County on Saturday for a Welsh derby. With Stockport facing a tough trip to Notts County, Wrexham could end the day top of the table.
