Wrexham star receives one of Wales' highest honours for services to women's football

The 19-year-old was recognised for her impact on women's football, her support for female footballers' wellbeing, and her work in promoting Welsh culture. The teenager was thrilled at this development, as the National Eisteddfod is the 'largest cultural festival in Europe'. 

Jones told The BBC it was "such a privilege" to receive this honour and that, "It's been lovely seeing so many familiar faces around the Maes. Everyone is just so happy. There might be some bias when the Eisteddfod comes to your area, you think it's the best thing in the world, but honestly, it has been unbelievable."

Wrexham also wrote on Instagram: "Congratulations Lili Jones, who has been honoured by Gorsedd Cymru at the Wrexham National Eisteddfod today."

The National Eisteddfod celebration is composed of individuals who have made significant contributions to Wales, its language, and culture. Those who have excelled are inducted as honorary druids, receiving blue robes, in recognition of their efforts to the country. Now, Wrexham's Jones has joined that special group of people.

Jones, who studies Welsh at university, reportedly found out about this news during a football tournament in Hong Kong. Alongside her studies, she is preparing for the new season with Wrexham Women in the Adran Premier.
