  • WHAT HAPPENED?

On Saturday the two Welsh clubs will meet in a Football League fixture for the first time in 35 years. Wrexham are fighting for a second consecutive promotion under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, but with one of the smallest budgets in League Two, Coughlan's aims at Newport are rather more modest.

  • WHAT GRAHAM COUGHLAN SAID

Ahead of the derby match, Coughlan said: "Let's concentrate on the football, let's not get involved in finances. There would not be a discussion, we would not be on the same planet when it comes to situations like that, the haves and the have nots.

"We make the most of what we have. We work hard, we coach, we breed success on the training ground, we work towards development. We are not as fortunate as other football clubs.

"All of the things other clubs have may be a pipe dream for us but we work towards that, we work towards all the nice things you can have in life. We are working hard and hopefully taking baby steps toward creating and making something for us to be proud of here at Newport."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Newport are currently 10 points above the relegation zone and nine points off the playoff places. The fan owned club could soon be taken over by former Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins, who is awaiting Football League approval to buy 52% of the club's shares.

WHAT NEXT FOR NEWPORT AND WREXHAM?

Defeat for Wrexham on Saturday could see them slip out of the automatic promotion places, but ultimately they will remain among the favourites to go up. On Saturday, Newport will look to replicate the performance they produced in a surprise 2-1 win against league leaders Stockport County last month.
