Wojciech Szczesny makes huge decision on his Barcelona future after considering second retirement despite being offered new contract

As per Luis Rojo, Wojciech Szczesny has already decided on his Barcelona future. The Polish goalkeeper wants to extend his stay at Camp Nou for another year. However, the club is still looking for a permanent replacement, with uncertainty over Marc-Andre ter Stegen's future.

The Polish goalkeeper called it quits in 2024 after mutually terminating his contract with Juventus but returned to action within a month, signing for Barcelona. Szczesny was brought in to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who suffered a season-ending injury. The former Juve shot-stopper quickly made his mark, prompting the club to extend his contract through the summer of 2026. With his starting role now in question, Ter Stegen is reportedly exploring other options as he looks to secure his place in Germany’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ter Stegen’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2028, but with his future uncertain under new head coach Hansi Flick, a move could be on the horizon. Barcelona are already looking to fill the potential vacancy and have been in talks with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The Spain international has a €25 million (£21m) release clause in his contract, which Barcelona could trigger to bring him to Camp Nou.

Barcelona have been scouting the English Premier League as well, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford reportedly at the top of their wishlist. However, any move will heavily depend on the price tag United place on the English forward. Meanwhile, the club has extended the contracts of Hansi Flick, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal, securing their key in-house assets before focusing on new signings.
