'What you dream about as a kid' - Harry Kane reflects on journey to becoming England captain 10 years after making Three Lions debut

Kane made his England debut on March 27, 2015, after having pledged his allegiance to the Three Lions just months before, as he had also been eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland. On his debut against Lithuania as a 21-year-old, Kane was brought on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney, and it took the then-Tottenham Hotspur striker only 79 seconds, three touches and one header to get his first goal. On the 10-year anniversary of his debut, Kane has opened up on his journey with England.

On X (formerly Twitter), Kane wrote: "It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to make your debut for England, let alone score after 79 seconds. It’s what you dream about as a kid. It’s what you pretend to do in the park when you’re having a kickabout with your mates.

"It may have been 10 years ago today but it’s a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life, one that I worked so hard to achieve and one I am so so grateful to have."

In the last 10 years, Kane has made 104 more appearances for the Three Lions under five different coaches and became England's all-time top goal scorer with 71 goals. He has also become England's captain. He has also helped the Three Lions reach two Euros finals and World Cup semi-finals.

The England captain is continuing his hunt for his first-ever career trophy as Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga and also find themselves touted as one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
