    WHAT WAYNE ROONEY SAID

On accepting the award, he said: “I am delighted to receive the 2024 Legends of Football award. The award has been previously awarded to some of the biggest names in the game, to be recognised alongside all of them including some of my teammates, opponents and footballing icons means a lot. Throughout my life and career; music has always been a massive influence and inspiration for me, and to see how Nordoff and Robbins use music to help people connect and communicate is truly special. I’m really looking forward to celebrating with Fara for a great night of football, music and fundraising at Grosvenor House.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Legends of Football is an annual awards ceremony that raises funds for Nordoff and Robbins, which is the United Kingdom's largest music therapy charity. Former England player Fara Williams MBE received the same award as Rooney - which the likes of Pele, David Beckham, Arsene Wenger, and more, have also scooped up.

    WHAT NEXT?

Next up, Rooney - who has three other children called Klay, Kit, and Cass - will be focusing his attention on Plymouth's Championship clash with lowly Cardiff City on October 19. The Pilgrims sit 14th in the division after three wins in their last five matches.
