The pre-sale draw, which launched in mid-September, offered fans worldwide an early opportunity to purchase tickets ahead of the general sale phases. FIFA reports that the initiative generated more than one million tickets sales, to date.
The draw’s success reflects the intense anticipation surrounding the first World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will be the first World Cup to feature an expanded 48-team format.
FIFA said that ticket-buyers in the host countries dominated purchases, with the U.S. leading the pack, followed by Canada and Mexico.
