However, their joy was short-lived as Lyon staged a comeback in the second half thanks to goals from Delphine Cascarino and Sara Dabritz. Horan played a crucial role in the second as she curled in an inch-perfect cross just from inside the box and Dabritz did the rest by getting her head to the ball after jumping between two defenders.

Benfica were playing in their first-ever UWCL quarter-final after qualifying from Group A as the second team behind Barcelona. And on Tuesday, they almost gave a scare to the French outfit as they looked like a hard nut to crack.

Horan will be back in action on Saturday to take on Lille in a league match before hosting Benfica on March 27 in the second leg of the tie. Looking to the longer term, she'll be hoping to maintain her good form heading into the Olympics this summer.
