USWNT see incredible 80-game unbeaten run over 23 years ended as Mexico match unique Canada feat after stunning W Gold Cup upset

The USWNT suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mexico at the W Gold Cup, bringing a remarkable 80-game unbeaten run against CONCACAF opposition to a close.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    The United States have dominated the global game in recent times, and have very much been the team to beat when it comes to action in the Americas. They did, however, suffer a humbling last-16 exit at the 2023 Women’s World Cup as their defence of that title ended with a whimper.

    A new era has been ushered in, with an exciting crop of young talent being given an opportunity to impress, but the USWNT and their class of 2024 remain a work in progress. That point was highlighted when going down 2-0 to neighbours Mexico in a Gold Cup group stage encounter.
