WHAT HAPPENED?
The United States have dominated the global game in recent times, and have very much been the team to beat when it comes to action in the Americas. They did, however, suffer a humbling last-16 exit at the 2023 Women’s World Cup as their defence of that title ended with a whimper.
Said setback is the first that the U.S. have suffered against CONCACAF rivals since coming unstuck in a meeting with Canada back on November 11, 2000. That 23-year run, which included 78 wins and two draws, is now over.
WHAT NEXT FOR THE USWNT?
The USWNT have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2024 W Gold Cup, which will take place on March 2 and 3, but are aware of the need to re-establish consistency with SheBelieves Cup action still to come this year alongside a bid for gold medal glory at the Olympic Games in Paris.
