Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie, Josh Sargent and the USMNT stars with plenty left to play for over the final weeks of the European season

We've reached the final few weeks of the European seasons, and so much has already been decided. Bayer Leverkusen's dominant run through Germany has ended Bayern Munich's reign; Real Madrid have run away with La Liga; Inter have lifted Serie A, while the U.S. men's national team's PSV trio have claimed the Eredivisie.

However, while Sergino Dest, Ricardo Pepi and Malik Tillman are celebrating their title - and Tillman surely celebrated - several of their USMNT teammates will be fighting to the final whistle this season. There's still much to play for all over Europe, and several American stars find themselves right in the middle of some of the sport's tightest races.

From cup finals to relegation fights, here's a look at the USMNT stars that are still fighting in Europe heading into these final weeks:

Gio Reyna & Matt Turner (Nottingham Forest)

It remains to be seen what kind of role Reyna, in particular, plays down the stretch, but Forest still have a relegation fight on their hands. With two games remaining, Nuno Espirito Santo's side are three points clear of the Premier League's bottom three, which a perilous position.

Up next on Saturday is a clash with Chelsea, and, if they lose, it may all come down to the final day when they face another relegation contender in Burnley. Turner is locked in as the backup goalkeeper, but Reyna may get a chance to make his mark before the campaign is over.

  • Weston McKennie JuventusGetty

Weston McKennie & Tim Weah (Juventus)

Juve still have to secure their place in next season's Champions League via their Serie A position, but for now, all eyes are on the Coppa Italia final. Weah helped them get there with a fine assist, giving the Bianconeri a huge opportunity to end the season with some silverware.

McKennie, Weah and co. are set to face Atalanta on May 15 with a trophy on the line. The Scudetto is long gone and, with no European soccer on the schedule this season, the Coppa Italia is the big one for the Old Lady. A win there, paired with a top-five finish, would make Juve's season a success.

  • Josh Sargent Norwich 2023-24Getty

    Josh Sargent (Norwich City)

Sargent's initial run in the Premier League wasn't a good one, but having dominated the Championship all season long, he has a chance to seal a top-flight return.

Sargent and Norwich kick off the promotion playoffs on Sunday when they play host to Leeds United in the first leg of their semifinal. Should they get past Leeds after two legs, either Southampton or West Brom would await them to fight for a spot in the Premier League.

With 16 goals in just 26 matches this season, Sargent has earned his way back to the Premier League, with or without Norwich. He now has the chance to drag the Canaries with him as they eye a return to the top table of English soccer.

  • Johnny Cardoso Real Betis 2024Getty Images

    Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis)

He's still new to La Liga, but Cardoso sure is thriving and, as a result, there's a real hope that Real Betis will claim a European place. Heading into the final four games of the season, Betis sit seventh, just two points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad. That sixth-place finish will earn a spot in next season's Conference League, which would see Betis book their spot in Europe for a third consecutive season.

Either way, Cardoso could be on the move amid links to Barcelona. He'll hope to secure continental qualification for his current club first, however.

  • Scally Borussia Monchengladbach 2024Getty

    Joe Scally (Borussia Monchengladbach)

It's a tight race at the bottom of the Bundesliga, but Joe Scally and Borussia Monchengladbach should be okay. They're four points clear of 16th-place Mainz, who occupy the relegation playoff spot. With two games left and two teams between them, Gladbach should be fine. But there is another American in the Bundesliga relegation fight...

  • Brenden Aaronson Union Berlin 2024Getty Images

    Brenden Aaronson (Union Berlin)

It's been a rough, rough season for Aaronson, whose loan to Union Berlin hasn't gone well at all. In 26 total matches, Aaronson has just two goals and an assist, which are not the numbers anyone would have wanted from him.

Now, the club who finished fourth last season could be out of the Bundesliga in just a few weeks. Heading into the final two matches of the season, Union are just one point from safety. It's a remarkable fall from the club, who certainly overachieved last season, but have underachieved massively this time around.

Aaronson, of course, won't be around to deal with the consequences, as his own future will be determined this summer. He's on loan from Leeds, and it remains to be seen where he'll end up in 2024-25 given the current situations his parent and loan clubs face.

  • Tanner Tessmann Gianluca Busio splitGetty Images

Gianluca Busio & Tanner Tessmann (Venezia)

When Busio and Tessmann signed with Venezia, the club was a Serie A team. They can return there very soon, either through the promotion playoff or by claiming a space outright.

Heading into the final match of the Serie B season, Venezia are two points behind second-placed Como. Should Como slip up against Cosenza on Saturday, the door would open for Venezia, who would then need a win at Spezia to take advantage. Both opponents are midtable, and both could dramatically alter the promotion race.

Should Venezia fail to overtake Como, though, they'll head straight into the promotion playoff semifinals. They'll be the top seed in that playoff, but that road is perilous, for sure. It could also see Busio, Tessmann and co. meet up with a USMNT newcomer...

  • Kristoffer Lund USMNT 2023Getty Images

    Kristoffer Lund (Palermo)

One of the USMNT's newer players, Lund is also in the mix for the Serie B playoffs. His Palermo side have already qualified, although exact matchups will come down to the final game of the season. They'll enter in the preliminary round, meaning Lund and co. will have to win three ties to make it up to Serie A.

Lund has been a regular for Palermo all season, featuring 34 times.

  • Cameron Carter-Vickers Celtic 2023-24Getty

    Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

Carter-Vickers has already lifted the title in each of his first two seasons with Celtic - so can he make it three-for-three?

The American defender has battled injuries throughout the campaign, but has still been fit enough to make 22 league appearances. With three games remaining, including Saturday's do-or-die clash with Rangers, Celtic have a three-point lead over their Old Firm rivals. And, if that isn't enough, CCV and Celtic will also face Rangers in the upcoming Scottish Cup final.

It's always heated in Scotland, but the two heavyweights will be duking it out for two trophies over the next few weeks.

  • Mark McKenzie Genk 2023-24Getty Images

    Mark McKenzie (Genk)

McKenzie and Carter-Vickers are among those competing for a Copa America spot this summer, but McKenzie also has a lot still to play for at club level first.

The Belgian Pro League is in its Championship Round, and as things stand, McKenzie's club Genk sit fourth. If they hold onto that spot, they would face Gent in the European competition playoff, with the winner earning continental qualification.

Genk, though, only have a one-point lead on Cercle Brugge for that fourth spot with three games remaining. There's still much to play for, and a European place will be a huge prize for whichever team can claim it.
