U.S. international Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United defeated Sheffield United 3-1 in the English Championship on Monday, as they secured all three points to remain atop the Championship standings.

Aaronson logged 58 minutes, being named to the XI, but being one of the first changes of the second half as the Whites searched for a leveling goal after an early own-goal from goalkeeper Islian Meslier handed Sheffield a lead 15 minutes into the tie.

The equalizer came, with former Barcelona defender Junior Firpo bagging a goal in the 72nd minute to help them secure a point. Then, Ao Tanaka bagged the go-ahead strike in the 89th minute before Joel Piroe banged in a long-range effort just one minute later in the 90th minute to secure all three points.

At the end of the Matchday, Leeds remained in first, with the Blades trailing them by five points in second. The top two teams in the Championship at the end of the campaign earn an automatic berth into the Premier League come next season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Aaronson's cameo was solid, but nothing special as the 24-year-old logged just 25 touches on the ball throughout the match. He completed 16 of 18 passes on the ball, and created one attacking chance as well. He had two touches in the Sheffield box, and completed one successful dribble, too.

Monday was his 33rd appearance for Leeds in the Championship this season.

Leeds are now seven points clear of third-place Burnley, as well. Promotion is within sight.
