    THE BIGGER PICTURE

He formed part of the United States squad that savoured another CONCACAF Nations League triumph in March and would have been confident of making Gregg Berhalter’s plans for a Copa America event that will be staged on U.S. soil from June 20.

  • WHAT PSV SAID

Dest has, however, picked up a knee problem that has cast doubt over his immediate future with club and country. A statement on PSV’s official website reads: “Sergino Dest suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury during Saturday's training session. How long the winger will be sidelined is still being investigated. That it will be an extended period is almost certain. The 23-year-old Sergino has been rented from FC Barcelona since August 2023. Since then he grew to become an important force for Peter Bosz. The American international has played 37 official matches for PSV so far. In those, he scored two goals and was the originator of seven goals.”

Dest has earned 33 caps for the United States, having pledged allegiance to them instead of the land of his birth. This summer promises to be a big one for him even if the Copa America is sat out, with a permanent transfer away from Barcelona expected to be completed.
