    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea had a total of 33 shots in the game, managing 13 on target, while Burnley got seven of their 18 on target. Despite their dominance, Pochettino admitted it was not enough from his side and accused them of a lack of passion.

  • WHAT POCHETTINO SAID

He told Match of the Day: "So disappointed. We didn't show the consistency and the capacity to deal with and manage the game. We allowed them some actions from set pieces to get some possibility to believe.

"It is a result that shows that we need to improve in many areas if we want to be competitive. It was so easy for them to get to our last third. We were not aggressive enough in open play and defending set pieces. We need to improve like a team and be more competitive."

He continued in his press conference: "We are a team that when we go forward we create too many chances but don't score all of the chances we create. We didn't show the capacity, the energy, the hunger, the minimum to compete in the Premier League. That is why I am so upset and disappointed. It's more here [heart] and here [head] than in your legs."

He added: "I'm sorry but I am not happy with the performance when we don't have the ball. We need to be strong also against a very physical team. We allowed them to run too much. Sorry for my speech but it's difficult to accept not to win the game because it was a must-win game. We need to accept that and recover from the situation."
