Unai Emery to Bayern Munich? Aston Villa boss tipped to replace Thomas Tuchel after Julian Nagelsmann rejects Harry Kane & Co

The 63-year-old suggested that Emery could be the perfect successor to Thomas Tuchel this summer after the Bavarian club missed out on both Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann across recent weeks. Matthaus claimed Emery would bring "new wind" to the club after a disappointing season in the Bundesliga, which saw them miss out on the title to Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen.

"I would get Unai Emery from Aston Villa. He's doing a great job there. He has a lot of experience - including internationally - and he has titles to his name with Sevilla, for example," the German legend said to Sky Germany.

"He speaks perfect English. He can then learn German, but the players can all speak English anyway, so I don't see any language barrier. Emery would also be someone who would bring in a new wind, he would be a new face in the Bundesliga and That would fit well with Bayern Munich."

Nagelsmann previously took charge at the Allianz Arena from 2021 to 2023 - but was sacked from the role in March of last year. Bayern were now reportedly looking to bring him back to the club, but he has since opted to extend his contract with the German national team until the 2026 World Cup.

Given what Emery has accomplished at Villa since being appointed to the role in 2022, it is natural for links such as this to emerge. However, the Spaniard will undoubtedly remain focused on the task at hand as he looks to secure both Champions League football and the Europa Conference League trophy with his side before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
