'Trent isn't a snake!' - Sergio Aguero jumps to defence of Alexander-Arnold as free transfer from Liverpool to Real Madrid nears

Alexander-Arnold is likely to leave his boyhood club Liverpool this summer with his contract up at the end of June. Reports emerged last month that he has reached an agreement in principle with Real Madrid to join them as a free agent.

Ever since the news of this potential exit came out, Reds fans have been vocal with their criticism of the player. Some supporters even took matters into their own hands as they sent strong messages to the player, with banners were spotted near Anfield reflecting the frustration and disappointment of the fanbase.

City icon Aguero, however, defended the English full-back's decision as he told Stake.com: "I think the decisions that players make ought to be respected. Alexander-Arnold has given so much to the team, he’s allowed them to achieve many great things. I get the passion fans feel for their team, but I think going as far as calling him a 'snake' seems a bit too rich for me."

Arne Slot's side could seal a record equalling 20th English top-flight title this Sunday as they host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
