Thomas Tuchel snubbed again! Man Utd to overlook 'unimpressed' England boss if they sack Ruben Amorim

The Sun report that Tuchel will not be considered if United sack Amorim mid-season, despite his heavy links with the Old Trafford club on two previous occasions.

It was previously suggested that Tuchel was one of the Red Devils’ top managerial targets when they were considering the future of Ten Hag in the summer of 2024. Ultimately, the club hierarchy chose to delay the change and in the meantime, Tuchel was appointed as England boss. As would be expected, Tuchel is not believed to be considering departing the role ahead of the World Cup.

Tuchel was said to be ‘distinctly unimpressed’ by the Red Devils’ process as they considered the future of Ten Hag. Understandably so, as they contacted managerial candidates before repeatedly delaying and giving the Dutchman more time. It appears that the chance for Tuchel to manage at Old Trafford has now gone.

United minority shareholder and head of Ineos Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke openly earlier in the week in an interview with The Times’ The Business podcast, stating that he intends to give Amorim three years to prove himself as United head coach.

"I would say Ruben needs to demonstrate that he's a great coach over three years," said Ratcliffe. "That's where I would be: [Give him] Three years. Because football is not overnight.

"We're results driven at the end of the day but we have to be patient. We have to see through the results. I think there are lots of good things at Manchester United. We have to be patient. We have a long-term plan. It isn't a light switch."

Meanwhile Tuchel is enjoying a successful period as England manager thus far, winning all five World Cup qualification matches without conceding a goal and winning six matches out of seven including friendlies. The Three Lions could secure qualification with two matches to spare when they make their first-ever away trip to Latvia on Tuesday.

Tuchel is certainly still working out who his best side are, with several big-name players such as Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer remaining out of the squad for fitness or selection reasons.

It has not all been plain sailing though, as the England boss complained following Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Wales that Wembley was verging on silent for much of the game. He said: "I love English football and I love English football fans and the support they give, but I think the atmosphere did not match the performance on the field. We had excellent support in Serbia, but [here] we were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, we had ball win after ball win after ball win, and I felt like why is the roof still on the stadium? That's just it, it's nothing big. We will do everything again to be infectious, there's no problem. I'm sure we will get everyone going - it is on us. But tonight I was a little underwhelmed."

He told ITV after the match that "it's a bit sad" because for half an hour it was "just Wales fans" being heard in the stadium.

Whether Tuchel stays on as England boss after the World Cup remains to be seen, but what we do know is that he is unlikely to be joining United mid-season.

The Red Devils and Ratcliffe may decide to keep faith in Amorim, though the idea of him staying for three years seems ambitious at this point in time. There is no doubt that if pressure on the Portuguese increases once again, speculation will be rife about who United’s next manager could be. Though those conversations are unlikely to include Tuchel this time.
