THE BIGGER PICTURE
In February, there was speculation over the 36-year-old making a return to professional football, but the ex-striker was quick to shoot down those rumours. Speaking to reporters, he said: "It's totally a lie, I'm not going to train with Independiente. Sometimes things are invented. I reiterate that the cardiologist said that I am well and that it is important that I am in good health. But to return to training at the First Division level, I would need to undergo a lot of tests."

The former Argentina international briefly returned for a legends match last year, but his time on the pitch was limited as he dislocated his shoulder. Aguero also appeared in a seven-a-side soccer tournament in the US in June 2024.
