Serge Gnabry playing for his Bayern Munich future as German winger addresses possible contract extension

Gnabry is in his final contractual year but the ex-Arsenal player wants to continue with the club. He will have to convince the Bundesliga champions that he can still play a key role, though multiple clubs are reportedly pursuing his signature.

Asked about his contract situation, Gnabry said: "It's still a while away, we'll see that we continue like this, I'll see that I continue like this, that I also have good arguments if it comes to that, that's what I'm concentrating on and enjoying the phase I'm in, the phase we're in, and everything else will come later. It's not out of the question."

Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed in the summer that the Bundesliga club won't be going overboard in spending as they are prioritising financial stability and careful spending, including relying on loan signings rather than expensive permanent signings. This shift in policy has been more notable in this transfer window, with clubs like Paris Saint-Germain also opting to prioritise performance-based incentives rather than spending heavily on a single player. This also led the Parisians to lose out on star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after he declined to lower his wages.

Bayern are set to host Premier League side Chelsea on September 18 as they kick off their Champions League campaign. Coming off a thumping win, Vincent Kompany's side will look to start their campaign with a win at Allianz Arena.
