Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac plot January move for striker as Wrexham owners ask Man City for transfer advice

The Red Dragons have been faring admirably themselves, with there not too many deals being done that could be considered flops. Wrexham have brought in the right people at the right time - from prolific striker Paul Mullin in the National League to Premier League proven defender Conor Coady in the Championship. Said success has delivered a record-breaking run of three successive promotions.

Wrexham are not done yet, with Reynolds and Mac having never shied away from the fact that they intend to deliver top-flight football to the Racecourse Ground. An elaborate £33 million ($44m) spending spree was overseen in the summer of 2025. Record signing Nathan Broadhead formed part of that outlay, in a deal that could eventually be worth £10m ($13m).

Little return has been seen on that investment as yet, with Broadhead netting one Championship goal so far, and that is keeping the Red Dragons interested when it comes to further attacking additions.

A source has told CEO Today of Reynolds unwavering commitment to Wrexham: “Ryan is patient, but he’s also a perfectionist. He understands investment cycles - he built companies that way - but football is a different world. You can’t script form, luck, or goals.”

You can splash the cash, though, and it is claimed that A-list co-chairman have “already greenlit a January transfer move for another striker”. It is also claimed that: “Reynolds, ever the networker, has reached out to contacts within Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City setup for advice on scouting and analytics.”

Wrexham are considered to have “evolved into one of the most fascinating business experiments in sport - a masterclass in how storytelling and finance can collide, sometimes uncomfortably”. Reynolds is largely responsible for that, having brought documentary cameras along with him when a stunning takeover was completed in 2021.

The Red Dragons now boast fans around the world, with Reynolds being hailed for his ability to make “audiences feel like they’re part of something”. He is said to bring “vulnerability and transparency into boardrooms that are usually allergic to both”, with it those qualities which help to make “his Wrexham journey fascinatingly unpredictable”.

Reynolds’ business nous will be put to good use in North Wales, with Wrexham’s wage bill said to have quadrupled since 2021 while their annual losses “hover near £10m”. Famous owners are not panicking though. Another insider told CEO Today: “Ryan sees football like filmmaking. He understands pacing. Sometimes you need conflict before the redemption arc.”

Marketing strategist Laura Felton said of Reynolds’ methods: “Ryan doesn’t chase exits; he chases meaning. That’s why audiences and investors trust him. His products tell stories that feel alive.” Another colleague added: “He’s not afraid to lose. He’s afraid of not trying.”

Wrexham are doing their best to hold their own in the second tier of English football, with early growing pains seeing them stumble out of the blocks in 2025-26. A few uncomfortable questions have been asked of Phil Parkinson, despite all that he has achieved, but he has plenty of credit in the bank and can call upon the full support of Reynolds and Mac for now.

The Red Dragons sit 18th in the Championship table, just four points above the relegation zone, but are only five points adrift of the play-off places and could force their way into another promotion race with consistent form and more shrewd recruitment. Parkinson’s side will be back in action on Saturday when taking in a trip to Stoke City, with a five-game unbeaten run across all competitions having carried them into the latest international break.
