'Total accident' - Robert Lewandowski hits back at claims he blanked Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal during Alaves win

For better or worse, Lewandowski was the talk of the town on Sunday night in Barcelona. His stunning header and composed penalty kick changed the tide for the Blaugrana, who defeated Alaves 2-1. However, a lot of supporters were dissatisfied with their performance and did not like images showing him ignoring Yamal. During the game, Lewandowski had made an aggressive demand for the ball from the 16-year-old, leaving Yamal hanging as he tried to give his team-mate a high five as he passed.

Lewandowski surprised everyone by showing no emotion towards the youngest player to feature in Barca's history. Xavi Hernandez has talked highly of the environment in the locker room and regularly complimented his star striker for setting a good example for the younger players. Although it might not be anything noteworthy, Lewandowski's attitude in the upcoming games will be closely monitored.

Lewandowski was asked about the incident after joining up with the Poland national team and gave his version of events: "Ignoring Lamine Yamal? There is nothing to comment on, it was a total accident. Sometimes I shout during a match, but that's normal."

Before returning to action with the Catalans, the Polish striker will be involved with the national team in their matches against Czechia and Latvia.
