Robbie Savage is splashing the cash! Non-league Macclesfield sign former £13.5m striker Oumar Niasse, days after taking Papiss Cisse on trial

The 33-year-old has agreed to a short-term deal with the Northern Premier League outfit which marks a new chapter in his career after a challenging season with Morecambe in League One where he found the net just once in 10 games. The signing is another statement of intent from Macclesfield as they have got former Newcastle attacker Papiss Cisse in training with an eye to handing him a long-term contract if he is able to fulfill the expectations of manager Alex Bruce.

A statement from the club read: “Macclesfield FC are delighted to have agreed terms to the signing of former Everton and Hull City striker Oumar Niasse on a short term deal subject to league approval.

“Boasting a wealth of experience, Niasse will be able to share his expertise from making over 50 appearances at the highest level.

“The former Senegalese International provides a real threat with his pace and power and adds real quality to Alex Bruce’s squad. Everyone at Macclesfield FC would like to wish Oumar every success during his time at The Leasing.com Stadium.”

Niasse had a notable four-year spell at Goodison Park, scoring eight times in 35 appearances. However, his tenure at Goodison Park was marred by a falling out with then-manager Ronald Koeman. Following his time with the Toffees, Niasse had loan spells at Hull and Cardiff.

The club's aggressive recruitment strategy is notable, considering the recent acquisition of players with Premier League backgrounds. They hope that the new acquisitions will help them get promoted at the end of the campaign who are currently fourth in the Northern Premier League.
