The reason Enzo Maresca won't be sacked? Chelsea players seeking 'stability' after turbulent period under Boehly-Clearlake ownership

Chelse kicked off the 2024-25 campaign strongly under new head coach Maresca and were even considered as one of the contenders to win the Premier League title until December. However, their form took a dip at Christmas and they are now battling for a spot among the top four teams in the league. The Blues are also tipped to win the Conference League this year, however, considering the amount of money they have shelled out since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital came on board as new owners, winning the third-tier European competition will not be enough.

There has been speculation over the Italian coach's future at Stamford Bridge, but the BBC reports that the Blues are unlikely to part companies with their head coach after just one season in charge as the players reportedly want 'stability' at the top. They have seen three permanent managers in charge since 2022 as well as two interim bosses.

The west London side have recently completed the signing of Sporting CP's Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo in a combined €74 million (£62m/$80m) deal as confirmed by the Portuguese club. While 17-year-old Quenda will join the squad in 2026, Essugo will be incorporated into the first team from the 2025-26 season. Per the CIES Football Observatory, the club is considered to be the most future-proofed in terms of minutes played by those on contracts until beyond 2026.

The Premier League giants will be back in action next month after the international break as they take on Tottenham at home on April 3.
