Real Madrid left out of committee to revolutionise refereeing system in La Liga in wake of Spanish giants' complaints on standards

A panel consisting of four clubs has been put together to reform the refereeing system in Spain, with Real Betis and Sevilla the La Liga clubs joined by Granada and Albacete. Clubs were asked to vote on who they would like to form part of the committee and Real Madrid received only four nominations, report Relevo.

Real sent an open letter to the Spanish Football Federation earlier this month after Espanyol defender Carlos Romero was not sent off for a challenge on Kylian Mbappe and went on to score the winner against them. They have since been unhappy with Jude Bellingham's red card at Osasuna last weekend.

In the open letter, Real Madrid said: "Decisions against Real Madrid have reached a level of manipulation and adulteration of the competition that can no longer be ignored." La Liga president Javier Tebas hit back, claiming the club have "lost their head" over the situation.

Real believe their complaints have led to more unfavourable refereeing decisions coming their way. They still have plenty to play for this season, sitting second in La Liga and having beaten Manchester City to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.
