Real Madrid leave Alphonso Davies in limbo! La Liga giants could make Bayern Munich star wait another year before signing him as contract drama drags on

Carlo Ancelotti's side are clear on their intentions to sign Davies this summer, although he could be forced to wait for the deal due to his contract situation. Los Blancos are unwilling to part ways with £60 million ($74m) for the Canadian international due to him only having one year left on his current contract. Davies will become a free agent in 2025, unless he agrees to fresh terms with his current Bavarian employers.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the situation, saying: "The Alphonso Davies situation remains very clear for Real Madrid. They are waiting for Davies to answer to Bayern’s contract proposal, then Real Madrid’s position is firm that they won’t spend €60-70m on a player with one year left on his contract. Real will insist on a fair price for this summer or they could wait until summer 2025 when he would be a free agent, but Real would prefer to go for him now with good price, rather than wait.”

It comes as no surprise that Madrid are unwilling to part ways with a substantial figure for Davies, considering the growing links to Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe this summer. The French international will become a free agent this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu - which may take up a huge chunk of their transfer budget given the wages, sign-on bonus and other financial incentives he would demand.

While one eye is currently fixed on the summer transfer window and possible additions Madrid can make, they must also continue to concentrate on the 2023-24 season. After progressing past Manchester City in the Champions League on penalties, Carlo Ancelotti's men are now fast approaching another Clasico fixture on Sunday evening. Barcelona are currently trailing Madrid by eight points in La Liga, although this could change with seven games to go.
