    WHAT HAPPENED?

Luis Ángel Malagón has become one of the best goalkeepers in Mexican football since joining América. Since his signing in 2023, the keeper has won three titles in four tournaments with Las Águilas, and his brilliant performances over time have earned him the spot as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Mexican national team over Guillermo Ochoa.

As a result, the goalkeeper has already attracted interest from other financially powerful Liga MX clubs, such as Rayados de Monterrey, who are reportedly looking to strengthen their goalkeeping for the Club World Cup and the Apertura 2025.

According to Transfermarkt, Luis Ángel Malagón has a market value of $7 million. However, his contract with América includes a release clause of $8 million, which is the amount Rayados would have to pay to sign him.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rayados de Monterrey is reportedly looking to replace Esteban Andrada in goal. The Argentine started as the first-choice in the first four matches of the Clausura 2025, but after conceding eight goals, he lost his spot to Luis Cárdenas.

Managed by Martín Demichelis - and having signed Sergio Ramos for this tournament and the Club World Cup in the summer - the team wants a reliable presence between the posts for the international competition. What better option than to poach Malagón, who has emerged as the best goalkeeper in Liga MX?

Despite the speculation, no negotiations have begun. But it's likely that Rayados will offer a lucrative sum to tempt the top goalkeeper.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Shortly after his debut, Malagón revealed who his role model as a goalkeeper was. He acknowledged in 2019 that he always admired Oswaldo Sánchez, the starting goalkeeper for El Tri in the 2006 World Cup.

"I started playing football when I was four years old," he said. "I told my dad to enroll me in the Zamora football school because of him (Oswaldo Sánchez), and that's how it all began. From the age of four to eight, I had all of Chivas' jerseys because of him; my admiration was so great that I wanted to be like him."

    WHAT NEXT FOR AMÉRICA?

André Jardine's team faces a tough match this weekend as they host Tigres on Saturday in Matchday 13 of the Clausura 2025. Las Águilas aim to maintain their top spot in the tournament, but they will be up against Guido Pizarro and his side, who currently occupy third place and could also challenge for first if León fails to beat Pumas on Sunday.
