'He will do that for years' - Rafa Benitez explains why Trent Alexander-Arnold should make Real Madrid switch as Liverpool star's future grows more uncertain with contract ticking down

According to former Liverpool and Madrid boss Benitez, if Alexander-Arnold headed to the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos' attacking style would suit the England star's game "for years" to come.

He told Sky Sports: "For an offensive defender in an offensive team, you have more chances to make assists and to create situations in attack that will be good for him as a player. He is doing that at Liverpool so it is not a surprise but with Real Madrid you can guarantee he will do that for years.

"As a Liverpool fan you will say if he stays it is much better because he will give us something special but if he goes, as a Real Madrid kid all my life, it will be good for Real Madrid and him."

Alexander-Arnold's contract runs out this summer and while the Reds have reportedly offered him a new deal, a Madrid move seems more likely with every week that passes. A big few months lie ahead for all three parties.

Aside from transfer speculation, Liverpool academy product Alexander-Arnold could feature for Arne Slot's men on Sunday at home to Wolves in the Premier League.
