Premier League Team of the Season GFXGetty/GOAL

Virgil van Dijk, Cole Palmer and GOAL's Premier League Team of the Season for 2024-25

The end of the Premier League season is upon us, with the final round of games set to be played on Sunday. There are, of course, still precious Champions League places up for grabs, but Liverpool have long since been confirmed as champions after surging away from the chasing pack over the winter break and never really looking back.

It won't come as a surprise, then, to learn that the Reds have more representatives in GOAL's Premier League Team of the Season than any other club (five) - or that not a single Manchester City player has made the cut after a dreadful title defence from Pep Guardiola's men.

However, there is well-deserved recognition for players from some of the 2024-25 campaign's surprise packages, including Fulham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest...

    GK: Matz Sels

The big Belgian's first spell in England with Newcastle didn't go well at all, with Sels sold after just one season in the Championship, but he's been brilliant for Nottingham Forest since arriving at the City Ground last year.

Indeed, Nuno Espirito Santos' side wouldn't have even got close to a top-five finish had it not been for the 33-year-old. No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in this season's Premier League (13), while Sels also boasts a very impressive 72.39 save percentage.

    RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold

It's a shame that Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool career is ending in such acrimony, given he was so integral to their success under Jurgen Klopp - and this season's title triumph under Arne Slot.

The right-back with the David Beckham-esque range of passing weighed in with six assists, while he also scored three goals himself, including the vital winner against Leicester City at the tail end of April.

    CB: Gabriel Magalhaes

What little hope Arsenal had left of catching Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table arguably died the moment Gabriel picked up a season-ending injury at the start of April.

The Gunners struggled badly to keep clean sheets without their brilliant Brazilian centre-back, who once again showed that he's not just a fearsome man-marker, but also a serious threat at set-pieces.

    CB: Virgil van Dijk

If this season has proven nothing else, it's that Virgil van Dijk remains the most dominant defender in the Premier League.

Liverpool's inspirational and imposing captain continues to cope so comfortably with world-class forwards such as Erling Haaland that it beggars belief, while he's still a colossus in the air, as he so memorably proved with his crucial late winner against West Ham.

    LB: Antonee Robinson

Only seven players have hit double figures for Premier League assists this season. Remarkably, Robinson is one of them, with the American left-back having proven an incredibly effective outlet for Marco Silva's fantastic Fulham side.

The 27-year-old also warrants inclusion for his excellent defensive skills, which he showcased during two particularly impressive performances against Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

    CM: Ryan Gravenberch

Liverpool fans were bitterly frustrated when the club failed to wrap up a deal for Martin Zubimendi last summer, but Arne Slot had a plan - convert Gravenberch into a ball-playing defensive player - and it's worked out brilliantly for the Reds.

The Netherlands international has been a revelation in his new role, as underlined by the fact that he's won possession more times for the title-winners than any of his team-mates (189), and ranks fourth in the overall standings. All in all, a most worthy recipient of a nomination for the Premier League's Player of the Season.

  • Alexis Mac AllisterGetty

    CM: Alexis Mac Allister

The beating heart of Liverpool's midfield, Mac Allister plays with an intensity that few other players in the Premier League can match.

The versatile Argentine just never stops hassling and harrying opponents, while he also stepped up with some big goals during the run-in - most notably in the 5-1 rout of Tottenham that clinched the title.

    AM: Cole Palmer

Palmer may have endured a four-month goal drought during the second half of the season, but he never stopped tormenting opposition defences.

At the time of writing, only Bruno Fernandes (88) has created more chances than Palmer (87), who has been directly involved in 23 goals for a very inconsistent Chelsea side.

  • Mohamed Salah Liverpool 2025Getty

    RW: Mohamed Salah

The best player in the Premier League this season, and one of the finest England's top-flight has ever seen.

Liverpool's Egyptian King has both scored (28) and created (18) more goals than anyone else, breaking or matching numerous records along the way. The Reds simply wouldn't have won the title without him - which is precisely why they ended up giving the 32-year-old a new contract.

  • isak(C)Getty images

    CF: Alexander Isak

With his slender frame, explosive turn of pace and lethal finishing, Isak is drawing ever more comparisons to Thierry Henry, which is the ultimate compliment for a Premier League forward.

Isak is pretty much the main reason why Newcastle are in a position to secure a return to the Champions League, having already surpassed his previous best for goals scored in a single season - and still one game left to add to his tally of 23.

    LW: Bryan Mbeumo

We've had to put Mbeumo on the left flank rather than the right in order to squeeze him into our all-star selection, but there was just no way we could leave out a player who put Brentford in with an outside chance of qualifying for Europe.

Only Salah and Isak have more goal involvements than the Cameroonian (26), who has also hit double figures for league goals in a single season since his time in the Championship.
