Phil Parkinson claims League Two opponents 'can't live with' one Wrexham star after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's team beat Colchester United

The Wrexham boss praised his players following the 2-1 victory at the Racecourse Ground, with a specific reference to the performance of former Premier League man James McClean, after the hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 26th minute of the game.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson praised the performance of 34-year-old during the win, saying: "James was excellent today, people can't live with him physically. James had a challenge on his hands but we felt as the game went on, [the defender] would struggle to cope with James' athleticism. It's a tribute to someone of his age, being able to run people into the ground every week."

George Evans was handed his marching orders in the first half by referee Ollie Yates, after Elliot Lee had given his side the lead just moments before. Wrexham would double their lead in the 69th minute thanks to an own-goal from Zach Mitchell, with Colchester scoring in the dying embers of the game to provide a nervy end for the Red Dragons.

The win on Saturday afternoon has since fired the club into the top three across the League Two standings, as Parkinson and his squad prepare to host 17th-placed Newport County next Friday.
