  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Salah, Liverpool's talisman, was key in the club's efforts to win their second Premier League title, scoring 29 goals and assisting another 18 across 38 appearances. He could become the first three-time winner of the award, having previously won it in 2018 and 2022. Salah is joined by an array of other top-tier stars, including one Reds team-mate, though there are no Manchester City players on the list despite Pep Guardiola's side finishing third.

    THE NOMINEES

Salah is joined as a nominee by fellow Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister and Alexander Isak of Newcastle. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Arsenal's Declan Rice complete the shortlist.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Like Salah, Mac Allister played a key role in Liverpool's title triumph, registering 10 goal contributions as Arne Slot's side eased their way to top spot. Isak finished the Premier League season as the second-top goalscorer with 23 strikes, while Fernandes saved United from an even more embarrassing campaign by registering 38 goals contributions across 57 matches in all competitions. Palmer scored 15 league goals as Chelsea returned to the Champions League, with Rice playing an instrumental role in Arsenal's midfield as the Gunners finished as runners-up again.
