  • Pogba tested positive for prohibited substance DHEA
  • Star facing initial four-year ban
  • Lawyers hoping to find plea bargain
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Pogba had tested positive for the prohibited substance DHEA in an anti-doping test after Juventus' 3-0 victory over Udinese in Serie A in August. The test found heightened levels of testosterone and GOAL understands the midfielder is expected to be given a four-year ban by the Anti-Doping Prosecutor's Office. However, Pogba's lawyers are hoping they can reduce the ban to just a two years in hearing in January, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pogba, who will turn 31 next year, is facing a lengthy ban for failing the anti-doping test. Should the midfielder be given a four-year ban, it would most likely spell the end of a career that was never short of controversy. If he is handed the lengthier punishment, Juventus will likely release Pogba - who had rejoined the club after sixtumultuous years with Manchester United.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Since returning to the Bianconeri last season, Pogba's playing time has been significantly limited by injury. He played a total of 161 minutes in 2022-23 and only added a further 52 this term before being suspended.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR POGBA?

Pogba awaits his hearing as part of the doping trial in January 2024, with the prosecutors seeking to slap the midfielder with a four-year ban. Whether given a two or four-year punishment, it is unlikely we will see Pogba in a Juventus shirt again.
