    WHAT HAPPENED?

It was reported on Friday that Evra has been handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence for abandoning his family over a two-year period. The former Manchester United defender owed £800,000 ($1m) in alimony payments to his former partner, Sandra.

In addition to the two-year suspended sentence, Evra must pay €4,000 (£3,300/$4,300) for moral damages and €2,000 (£1,600/$2,100) in legal costs. The 43-year-old appealed the verdict and, judging by his response on Instagram, isn't taking the matter too seriously.

Wearing an afro wig, an orange prisoner jumpsuit, a large dollar-sign chain and teeth grills, and with his hands handcuffed together, Evra is seen playing basketball on a court. "They have to put me in jail because I was breaking the internet," the Frenchman says.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR EVRA?

Evra's lawyer confirmed to Le Parisien that the former professional disputes his former partner's claims, claiming he provided her with an apartment and a house with a swimming pool. He has since moved on and has two children with Margaux Alexandra, although his divorce has not been finalised.
