  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Rider Christian Kukuk and his horse Checker, which is co-owned by Bayern star Muller, won the gold medal in the equestrian individual jumping event at the Olympic games on Tuesday. The footballer was on top of the world as he showed off the medal on social media.

  • WHAT THOMAS MULLER SAID

    The 34-year-old took to Instagram to share his happiness with fans as he posted a congratulatory video for Kuku and Checker. In the caption he wrote: "It's golden - we are Olympic winners!".

    In the video, Muller said to Kukuk: "Hats off to what you have done with Checker in the last year and a half. I am so excited. Let yourself go and celebrate now."

    The experienced attacker could be back in action in London on Saturday as Bayern play their penultimate pre-season friendly against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Vincent Kompany's team are due to open their new Bundesliga campaign away at Wolfsburg on August 25.
