  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and club director Jacobo Solis met Isak at his house in Northumberland before the Magpies' Premier League clash with Liverpool on Monday. The report adds that this meeting is a 'step in the right direction' in a bid to reintegrate the Toon striker.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Isak has made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle amid his efforts to sign for Liverpool. Manager Eddie Howe said this saga is "coming to an end" last week as Newcastle try to keep their prized asset. The report adds that Newcastle want the Swede to return to first-team training and then play for them soon. Whether that happens is up in the air.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It is understood that a new Newcastle contract would be part of the discussions with Isak, if the 25-year-old is committed to the club this season. However, Magpies fans have called the former Real Sociedad man a "rat" for his wantaway actions, so it may be a while before he wins them over.

    WHAT NEXT?

Liverpool's initial bid for Isak of £110 million ($149m) was rejected by Newcastle earlier this month. It remains to be seen if the Reds will return with a new and improved offer before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
